There have been official reports by DoT India about a series of cyber-attacks by Chinese hackers from Chinese servers. According to officials, there are nearly 10,000 attacks every day and malware with a CNC kind of attack pattern, i.e., Command and Control (cyberattacks by Chinese hackers from Chinese servers).
The DoT or Department of Telecommunication India has followed up with government websites and asked them to conduct an immediate security audit. The attacks were of many kinds like DDoS (Distributed Denial of service), phishing, remote access tool malware, etc. The Telecommunication ministry of India has also asked many of the key web portals to upgrade their online security and server hardware security (cyberattacks by Chinese hackers from Chinese servers).
The officials from the department have also said that such cyber-attacks have seen a spike after the border clash started with Chinese troops. The motive of such attacks has been to deface and disrupt the government web portals. A report has also been prepared and submitted to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) on future possible security lapses and cyber threats. The DoT has also asked the government web portals to submit a compliance certificate (cyberattacks by Chinese hackers from Chinese servers).
According to another news report, in June 2020, the Cyber Wing from Maharashtra has informed that nearly 40,000 searches have been done by Chinese hackers to sniff out vulnerabilities. These probes originated from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, China. The searches were made on key Indian sectors like Information Technology, Banking, Infrastructure, etc. There have been fishing emails also being received saying “Free COVID-19 tests”, the main targets of such emails were residents from Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Hyderabad.
There have also been reports of Data exfiltration, meaning unauthorized access to a computer that is connected to a network by a malware or virus. Such attacks have become very common too. Hence it is of utmost importance that you check if your website is safe and it is hosted on a robust and secure server. Many times websites also do not have an up to date or the right SSL certificate. Hence, it is important that you get a paid and right SSL certificate for your websites. It is always best to choose a website hosting plan with an SSL certificate and go for a paid SSL rather than a free one since it will not provide a high level of protection and encryption.
Even Alpha Infolab network administrators had reported failed attempts by Chinese hackers on the servers in May 2020 and June 2020. Since our servers have multi-level protection, encryptions, and authentications, they were not successful. If you want to keep your website and server safe and secure, choose a server partner like Alpha VBox (a hosting service by Alpha Infolab).
