Primarily, Gudi Padwa is celebrated in the states of Maharashtra, Goa and Konkan areas. On this day people clean their houses and draw beautiful rangoli patterns and designs to decorate the doorsteps with flowers and colors. Everyone wears new clothes and women make delicacies like Shrikhand, Pooran Poli etc,.

In other states where Gudi Padwa is known by other names, like Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh. People in Andhra Pradesh prepare a sweet, sour and tangy Gudi Padwa special drink called Pacchadi which clears the body from diseases and increases immunity. It is made from Gud or jaggery, neem flowers and tamarind.

Gudi is made using cloth, neem leaves, bamboo sticks and jaggery. People conduct pooja in their houses and also visit temples. They make prasad at home and serve to God.

The festival of Gudi Padwa is celebrated in other states of India too, but have other names for it, like:

  1. Ugadi – Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh
  2. Gudi Padwa – Maharashtra, Goa, Konkan Area
  3. Gangour – Jaipur, Rajasthan
  4. Chithrai or Putuhandu – Tamil Nadu
  5. Chaitra Navratri – Central and Northern India
  6. Baisakhi – Punjab
  7. Navreh – Kashmir
  8. Bihu – Assam
  9. Vishu – Kerala
  10. Naba Barsha – West Bengal
